STUDENT WELFARE
7540 STUDENT ASSISTANCE PROGRAM

The Brockport Central School District recognizes that adolescence is a time of transition from childhood to adulthood, filled with a variety of concerns for many. In light of this unique period in the life cycle, the Brockport Central School District recognizes the need to establish a comprehensive Student Assistance Program. This program will help students through this crucial stage when they may be confronted with problems of family relations, peer pressure, eating disorders, chemical use, depression, and suicide.

The Student Assistance Program exists to help those students who are having difficulty as they approach adulthood to make a healthy transition.

Further, The Brockport Central School District recognizes that many times the use of alcohol and other chemicals is a major factor underlying many of the adolescent's difficulties. As such, the Brockport Central School District believes that it is in the best interests of the community to take steps to promote, enhance and maintain a chemical free School District and student body. It upholds abstinence as the norm for children and adolescents. Along with parents and other segments of the community it has a role to play in helping students to remain chemical-free.

Whenever factors arise which interfere with a student's school performance, the Brockport Central School District will mobilize its resources to convert the situation. Therefore, the Brockport Central School District wishes to cooperate with all segments of the community in making the means of assistance available to all those individuals who develop special needs.
